چکیده
The efficacy of commercial insect repellents was evaluated against Aedes albopictus (Skuse) (Diptera Culicidae) by means of arm in cage assays. The tested products included a DEET-based repellent (Off Spray), a commercial preparation of Icaridin (Autan Active), three formulations containing DMP (Helpic, Sandokan Body Gel, and Sandokan Body Spray) and four plant-derived products (Orphea, Senzazzz, Tigreño Dermo, and Zanzoff Natura). Products were applied to volunteers’ forearms and the time elapsed between the application and the first mosquito bite was considered as the time of protection. Off Spray and Autan Active provided the longest mean protection times (250 and 220 min, respectively). Helpic, Sandokan Body Gel, Sandokan Body Spray, Tigreño Dermo, and Orphea were less effective showing protection times between 85 and 34 min. Zanzoff Natura afforded protection from mosquito bites for 15 min after the application. Sticky plasters (Senzazzz) provided less than 1 min of mean protec-

Evaluation of botanicals as repellents against mosquitoes.
Repellent properties of three plant extracts--essential oil (steam distillate) of Zanthoxylum limonella (fruits), Citrus aurantifolia (leaf) and petroleum ether extract of Z. limonella (fruits) were evaluated as repellent against Aedes (S.) albopictus mosquitoes in mustard (Dhara) and coconut (Parachute) oil base under laboratory conditions. Three concentrations--10, 20 and 30% of the repellent...

INTRODUCTION The presence of Aedes albopictus was detected in Spain in 2004 and it has now become fully established, causing significant discomfort among the population in the affected areas. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the arrival of A albopictus and its subsequent establishment on the population a year after being detected in Spain. MATERIAL AND METHO...
متن کاملPerformance of the plant-based repellent TT-4302 against mosquitoes in the laboratory and field and comparative efficacy to 16 mosquito repellents against Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae).
Repellent efficacy of the plant-based repellent, TT-4302 (5% geraniol), was compared with 16 other products in laboratory arm-in-cage trials against Aedes aegypti (L). Eight repellents (Badger, BioUD, Burt's bees, California Baby, Cutter Natural, EcoSMART, Herbal Armor, and SkinSmart) exhibited a mean repellency below 90% to Ae. aegypti at 0.5 h after application. Three repellents (Buzz Away Ex...

Four synthetic mosquito repellents (Autan [10% KBR3023], IR3535 [7.5%], Off! [15% deet], Skinsations [7% deet]) and eight natural (primarily plant extracts and/or essential oils) product-based repellents (Bite Blocker [2% soybean oil], ByGone, GonE!, Natrapel [10% citronella], Neem Aura, Sunswat, MosquitoSafe [25% geraniol], and Repel [26% p-menthane-3,8-diol]) were tested in the laboratory aga...
متن کاملResponse of Anopheles dirus and Aedes albopictus to repellents in the laboratory.
Laboratory tests were conducted to study the response of Anopheles dirus and Aedes albopictus to repellent formulations containing diethyl methylbenzamide (deet) and dimethyl phthalate. Anopheles dirus was tolerant of low concentrations of deet (5-20%), and formulations containing < or = 35% deet provided protection for < or = 90 min. In contrast, Ae. albopictus was sensitive to these formulati...
